Unit 7

1. It was hard to focus on the “Meeting Asclepius” exercise because I was tired. At first i understood what was going on and felt relieved but then i felt drowsy. I tried to stay up but my body wouldn't allow me. The only wise person I could think of was my mother. She raised my well and went through so much just to get me here. I kept thinking about her struggles and how they made her strong. In return I have become a strong women of my own. I am mediating at least twice a week now to help my wellness. I'm seeing things clearly and opening my mind and heart more. Soon i will truly be happy and please with all that I have accomplished.

2. The saying, "one cannot lead another where one has not gone himself” means how can you help someone if you do not about the situation or can help yourself. Before helping others and preaching to them the changes they can make in their lives, one must first make changes in their live. Become accustomed to the situation so that it's easier to help other's. Help your self first then help others. This will bring you peace and happiness. Once you done this you will feel better about yourself mentally and spiritually

  1. I find it hard to focus when to do the exercises when I am tired as well. I think for me at least I become so relaxed I just start falling asleep. It is great that you have such a great relationship with your mom that she is the person you picked. I completely agree that people need to develop themselves (or help themselves) before they help others. There is just no way a person can truly help others if they still need help too.

  2. Beverly,

I loved your blog post. Like you, my mother is my special person. Her strength, courage, patience, compassion, laugther, and love she gave me has always touched me. She is who I hope to be when I grow up...:)

As for focusing, it is very difficult when you are tired and mentally wiped from the day's punishment. But as you develop your meditation practice, you will see that you will have improved stamina, energy, and clarity. You already can see the changes and benefits that it has given you.

But remember, if you are like me, praying time is also like meditation. For me, I spend a lot of time praying and singing in my church. I find that even my singing is a different type of meditation for me. When I sing to the Lord, I am transcended to a place with me and my Lord.

Anyway, this was a great post. I am so proud and admire you tenacity to putting yourself first. I think you are a beautiful spirit.

    Later,
    Naomi

  3. Hi Beverly,

I think it is very difficult to do these exercises if you are tired and fully into doing them. I had to make myself do them. I agree with your explanation of the statement "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself". It is impossible for me to even listen to someone if I know they have not experienced what I am dealing with. I never attempt to give direct anyone down a path that I have never traveled. I have to relate this statement to married couples. I do not take marital advice from a person that has never been married. How can they tell me how to correct anything in my marriage if they have never been in a marriage.
